Mild Cognitive Impairment
Memory and cognitive problems often accompany aging. Once a person passes 60, having regular cognitive assessments using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) tool is a valuable way to track whether cognitive decline is taking place, and how rapidly.
We offer MoCA cognitive assessments for anyone on Vancouver Island who is considered about his/her cognitive health. The assessment is performed on-line, so it can be taken wherever you have access to a computer and the Internet. It can also be scheduled in person in Comox, Parksville, and Nanaimo.
For those whose cognitive decline has progressed to Mild Cognitive Impairment (25 or lower out of 30 on the MoCA scale), we offer individual counselling and workshops to help deal with the life changes that accompany Mild Cognitive Impairment. Strategies to possibly slow cognitive decline and improve cognitive functioning are provided. There is never a requirement or obligation to use these services.
Earl Blacklock is a certified MoCA test provider. To book a cognitive assessment, email earl@icc.care giving your name, location, phone number, and the reason you are wanting the assessment. There is a wait period for the assessment of as much as one month unless the assessment is needed for Road Safety BC, in which case there is a fee of $75.00.
Mild Cognitive Impairment is very often a stage which occurs years before the onset of dementia. For that reason, as cognitive decline starts to be noticeable, there is often a fear of being assessed. Our services are entirely confidential, and only the client decides what to do with the assessment information.
